we have some HP C3700 wokstations without a CD-ROM drive. There is no existing installation on the system, because the harddisks are new.
In the first step of the installation, I will use an older Ignite image on the server. If this is not working, I will install HPUX over the network using a CD-ROM from an other workstation.
Could you give me a tip
-how to get a connection from the workstation to the Ignite Server?
-how can I use a CD-ROM on an other workstation?
Thank you and best regards
Ruediger

Solution1) The Ignite server must be set up. The most important step is swcopy the OS to an NFS share that you configure into ignite.
2) Boot the workstation off its built in LAN card. Must be on the same subnet as the Ignite server or you need a boot helper.
At console, intervene by pressing a key
bo
Y To manuallly do it.
boot lan.ipaddress install
example
boot lan.192.168.0.10 install

Re: HPUX installation without CD-ROM drive
Mount the CD on the another Server like normal.
Edit /etc/exports so that it looks something like this...
/SD-CDROM -root=
Save the file
Run exportfs -a
Now on your workstation
mkdir /SD-CDROM
mount
Typed this quick, so hope no typos..

Re: HPUX installation without CD-ROM drive
connection to ignite server is quite simple:
- interrupt boot process
- 'boot lan.
- interact with IPL - no
some more points ...
Then start ignite at the ignite server and make your configurations.
You should be able to use images down to C3000, maybe b-class.

Re: HPUX installation without CD-ROM drive
I think your suggestion to mount the CD-ROM is only working on a workstation with an already installed HPUX.

Re: HPUX installation without CD-ROM drive
is your thread about 'changing installation from MTOE to TCOE' still current?
Nice to see someone else working with CAD.

Re: HPUX installation without CD-ROM drive
If you want to use a CD to do the installation, your best bet is to get an external SCSI CDROM and use it.
