Dear Admin,
We have few HP9000, K-class servers running HPUX 10.20 with oracle/SAP applications. Since the servers are old we don't want to sign any
software support contract as we will buy new servers after sometime.
My question is if we are running HPUX on a server and running some applications on it and
without any support requirement from vendor, Do we still need to pay some licenscing fee to HP for running HPUX, even though we don't need any support from them ?
If yes does anyone know howmuch it should be ?
Thanks in Advance.

Re: HPUX Licensing Issue
Hi,
No you dont need to as you already bought the HPUX licence, only if you need some support of any sort later (where are you going your patches-support cds and apllication cds from?...), you will have to pay on the basis of the installed licence.
Also stopping maint/support means you CANNOT transfer (normally) the licences you already have to new boxes, you will have to buy the soft again (glance, mirror-ux c-ansi etc...), I would to save money give up on hardware support but keep the software support (changing it to next day...), my 2 cents...
All the best
Victor

SolutionNo, I dont believe you need to pay HP anything if you dont want any support/help from HP in the event you have problems.
The original cost of HP-UX was covered when the system was purchased - by whoever paid for it back then. If you dont want any upgrades or support your fine.
Im from Palmerston North, New Zealand, but somehow ended up in London...
