Boot the system in LV maintenance mode, configure only the root volume, and then initiate single user mode.

Its lvm maintenance mode. Lets you work out disk logical volume issues in single user (non-networked mode).
If a volume group won't activate because there is no quorum(more than 50% of member disks working) you can boot hpux -lm and correct the problem.

you can 'mess around' with the logical disk set-up without having to worry about other users on the system and their processes.
Great for re-organising at the LVM level.

hpux -lm
1.It uses the auxilary boot device /dev/root for booting the os.
2.It does not activate the LVM.
3.After booting into LVM Maintenance mode we can carry the necessary LVm changes required for making the the system to boot in Single user mode or normal user mode.
