Hpux LVM Secure Path SAN moving

I try to move my hpux11i hosts with two HBA and secure PATH,and EVA5000 Storage Array with 4 Fport from a source single Fabric SAN Mcdata to a target double Fabric with two 32 brocade in ISL.

At the End of moving without boot machine all is ready;
but after a boot on hpux, the system change HW PATH and secure PATH Agent tell:
Server: myhost.mydoamin Report Created: Tue, Oct 19 11:14:04 2004
Command: spmgr display
Error: Mismatched spmgr / spagent. Please check your spagent and spmgr
versions and retry.

Does anyone know a method to move host and storage from SAN to SAN without boot and without break Secure Path ?

Re: Hpux LVM Secure Path SAN moving

Unfortunately there is no simple way of doing this. If you are using LVM you will need to export (VxVM deport) your VGs, delete the SecurePath config and remove all the device files for the SAN disk (use rmsf). When you boot up on the new SAN, new device files will be created so you can add the array to the SecurePath configuration and import your volume groups. I can give some more specific help if you need, just ask.

Re: Hpux LVM Secure Path SAN moving

Last night I just read in Chapter 3 of the CSA guide that you can renumber hardware instances.

As a matter of fact, you can make within reason the numbering system go back to the way it was before you moved the card.

There are links in this post telling how.

I actually had to do it, but never new you can actually manipulate the final outcome.

Re: Hpux LVM Secure Path SAN moving

SV,

I think you cannot avoid a reboot. And this is how I would have done it.

1. export VG's or deport VxVM DG's
2. spmgr delete all the LUNs fromthe EVA
3. spmgr delete the arrays
4. shut down the server
5. do your SAN work
6. Start server
7. verify from spmgr/ioscan that you can see the EVA and its LUNs
8. import the VG/DG...

Re: Hpux LVM Secure Path SAN moving

Hi,

You can redo your instance numbers, instances when the system sees each device. You need to mess with the ioinit file on the syste. This could be a complicated procedure. I would suggest a good backup before doing this if possible.

Take a look at this thread from itrc,

http://www2.itrc.hp.com/service/cki/docDisplay.do?docLocale=en_US&docId=200000067424466

The doc id is KBAN00000795

Also check out doc KBRC00004879 along the same lines.

Hope this helps.

Re: Hpux LVM Secure Path SAN moving

I would give a chance to re-instance numbering as it is not that dangerous as it sounds and it's given in HP internal white paper also..there are some three methods for that they mention. Just choose the best one you want to go for and give it a shot. Do not forget to backup the ioconfig file.

Thanks,
Prashant
