hpux networking

I have a d320 with a builtin and 10/100 lan card. These work fine if i don't need to subnet mask. However if i try to set the subnet mask with 255.255.248.0 it fails to configure. Also with the netconf file set for this mask it fails to set during boot and i have no ip value. Any thoughts. Thanks

Re: hpux networking

Are you sure about the subnet mask?

Re: hpux networking

Use ifconfig to add the netmask. First, bring down the interface, and bring it up again with netmask (see man ifconfig).
Any better?
How well is your machine patched?
1.Check for
s700_800 11.0 ONC cumulative patch(PHNE_19620)
s700_800 11.00 cumulative ARPA Transport patch(PHNE_21767)
2. Did you install critical hardware patches?
3. Run diagnostics.

Re: hpux networking

The subnet mask is correct. This is needed in our location. (255.255.248.0)

This is after a fresh cold install of V11.0 with the patches that came with it. I have tried to set the netmask using ifconfig and also fails to set. I have not run any diags as it will run fine with a netmask of 255.255.255.0

See http://forums.itrc.hp.com:80/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,1150,0x233249c5ae73d4118fef0090279cd0f9,00.html
it might help...
I still think is a patch or a hardware issue.

Re: hpux networking

To my knowledge there is a patch out for this (for about 1/2 year or so),
but if I remember right, it will work if you use the "ifconfig" with ALL parameters,
i.e. ip-addr, netmask, broadcast...
Give it a try manually.
Second chance: AFTER setting the netmask to 255.255.255.0 change it
again, then to your real netmask. You will have to add another startup script
immediatly after the "/sbin/rc2.d/S???net". That should work anyway.
