HPUX NFS time outs
os version - HPUX 11.11
Windows 200 -MS windows server for UNIX 3.0
We have setup the NFS share between the unix and windows machine and it was working fine.
Now, we are getting timouts randomly and it is causing lots of issues.
The error message in syslog is:
VMUNIX: NFS getattr failed RPC: Time Out.
I have increased the Client-NFS ,retry, interval parameeters. But no difference.
Please help me.
Thanks, Dunstan.

Re: HPUX NFS time outs
when the timeout issue surfaces. It sounds like you might have an networking issue, either connectivity or latency.
which one is exporting the share, HP or Windows? If its the Windows box, is there any unusual activity on it when this occurs?

Re: HPUX NFS time outs
The dmesg shows two more messages.
--bindresvport: lppt_twice port assigned 215
--NFS lookup failed RPC: Time Out
Thanks.

Re: HPUX NFS time outs
In my experience this has usually been a bandwidth problem during certain times of the day or a networking configuration issue where mutliple subnets are creating latency.
Question: Is there a certain time of day that you see problems?
Question: What is your backup schedule like?
Question: How many subnets are there in your datacenter?
Question: Is the DNS on another subnet? Is the mail server?
