HPUX OE Install Question

We need to install some new servers with HPUX Foundation OE. We only have the HPUX Enterprise edition of the CDs available at the moment, (the media part of our order has gone astray!).

Is it possible to select to install a lower HPUX OE off of the higher HPUX OE install CDs, i.e. Foundation off of Enterprise?

Thanks

Tim

Re: HPUX OE Install Question

Tim,

If you just exclude MirrorDisk, OnlineJFS, GlancePlus and PRM, that should give you the same as a Foundation OE.

Re: HPUX OE Install Question

But I believe there will be a licensing issue trying to install it from the different media.

I think you have to have the right media, otherwise it will not install.

Re: HPUX OE Install Question

You could also try (assuming your media is mounted at /cdrom):

1) Install the Enterprise Edition
2) run: update -ux -y -s /cdrom HPUX11i-OE
3) run: swremove HPUX11i-OE-Ent

Re: HPUX OE Install Question

Also have a similar enquiry I've been meaning to ask if we can use Enterprise OE CD for installs on our servers that are licensed for Foundation OE plus MirrorDisk, Online JFS and GlancePlus Pak.

Keep us posted.

Re: HPUX OE Install Question

We are worried about licensing issues that is why we are asking. What we really want is some form of selection between the differing OE levels at the beginning of the install process if that is possible?

Re: HPUX OE Install Question

Tim,

Yes, during the installation from the Enterprise OE you can choose from:

Enterprise OE-64bit
Enterprise OE-32bit
HP-UX 11i OE-64bit
HP-UX 11i OE-32bit
HP-UX 11i Base OS-64bit
HP-UX 11i Base OE-32bit

Re: HPUX OE Install Question

Hmmm .... we've managed to coax our d-class test box into life ... just .... it appears that the above answer is correct and there is a drop down to choose differnt OE on the install with the one printed on the CD being the highest level available.

Still not sure if theres any licensing issues still though doing things this way, (and HP support dont seem to be very good at returning calls this afternoon :( )...
