Hello,
I have some new HP printers that are connected to network via NT server by LAN hw addresses. I used to have IP assigned printer set up on K260 hpux11i server, but they are phased out. Now I would like to know what the best way is to set up the printers without IP addresses, but lan hw addresses only.
Any help will be very appreciated.
Steven

Solution
You could probably set them up as remote (rather than network) printers with your NT host as the host and whatever the print queue is on the NT box as the remote printer. The problem with this methos is that your have less control over the printjobs. If you want to use these under JetAdmin you are going to have to give them an IP address. One option would be to let these printers receive a static ip address from a bootp server - the printer gets a known IP address bases upon it's MAC address.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: hpux printer setup
Hi Steven
If you cannot assign IP address to the printers , then may be you will have to configure as remote printers only , it will any day better in terms of managebilty to have indepent IP adress oand configure using jetadmin etc.

Re: hpux printer setup
Hi Steven,
You can configrue the network printer as a remote printer connected to the NT server. the remote printer should be configured on the nt server. Or you can use the jetadmin to configure the network printer on hpux if these are hp printers connected directly to the network and have their own ip address. If you don't have jetadmin, you can download and install Jetadmin from this site,
ftp ftp.hp.com
username : anonymous
password : your_email_add
bin
cd /pub/networking/software
get HP10d621.SD (for 10.20)
get HP11d621.SD (for 11.0)
bye
Hope this helps.
