hpux to pc connection

I have a 735 (hpux 10.20)
and a PC (windows 98SE) that
I would like to connect
inexpensively. The PC has
a 10Bt NIC card, and the 735
also has a 10Bt connection.
Is it possible to connect them
via ftp using the existing
hardware and software?

Re: hpux to pc connection

Just connect them using a crossed network cable.

ftp-server is enabled by default on hp-ux, so that should'nt be any problem.

Getting networking to work on win98 may also work if you have a lucky day :-)

Re: hpux to pc connection

you can make a crossed cable easy enough, just joint the RX/TXs..

Re: hpux to pc connection

First of all, you must physically connect both machine by using a crossed network cable. Ensure they can see each other(use ping to test the connection). Then you can use telnet, ftp, ssh ... to connect the hp machine from windows.

Re: hpux to pc connection

you could use a crossover cabel to connect the two and make sure they are on the same network and subnet address range. or you could buy a $30 linksys switch and plug them both in (making sure the networking is setup correctly). I would recommend the linksys because it is designed to handle collisions and will be slightly faster than a crossover cable.

Re: hpux to pc connection

This is a peer to peer connection. One the HP-UX 735 run 'set_parms initial' and ONLY configure the hostname and ip address. Do not enter a gateway, nis or dns server, or any other network utility. Use only the hostname and ip.

Same on the 98 PC.

On the 98 PC use only :

internet protocol (tcp/ip)

Also on the 98 use a static ip. No DHCP, gateway, etc!

Use ping ip from the command line.

There will be no other protocols available to you except for tcp/ip, but you should be able to ftp in binary mode.

There are also other network packages available. See them for configuration guidelines.
