HPUX Upgrade 11.00 to 11i Free?

As long as a server is under a current HW/SW support contract, is it free to upgrade from 11.00 to 11i? For instance, all of our servers are on 3 year leases with pre-paid 3 year HW/SW support contracts. If I wanted to upgrade all to 11i, would it cost me anything?

No, it shouldn't cost you anything, as long as your software support.

If you have the hardware and a right to use license, you don't have to pay any money to upgrade the OS.

Contrary to popular belief HP-UX the software is not expensive itself. The hardware costs money, and the support, which is top notch, is a good investment.

Check with the company leasing your hardware to you that the right to use license(LTU) is up to date and you should be able to obtain the software and do the upgrade.

I strongly recommend cold install followed by application migration. Its a better path than upgrade-ux.

You just need to call HP or go to Software Update Manager (on ITRC home page) and order your CDs for 11i. It will be free and remember to order the codewords for your optional softwares too (like Mirror/UX).

No. Simply go to the ITRC SUM (Software Update Manager) and you can order the newer OS and all other HP software under maintenance (e.g. Mirror/UX, OnlineJFS, MeasureWare, ...). Make sure that you request a new applications CD set and the latest patch bundles as well.

Your only cost will be for shipping.

As long as you have a current support contract the Media (core OS, Support plus and apps) is free. If you are looking to have the upgrades performed for you, that falls under consulting and there is a cost for those services. Also keep in mind although cold install is the cleanest way to 11i it is not always best choice. If you do your homework the traditional upgrade can be successful as well.
