HPUX upgrade to 11.0 from 10.20

Hi,
I am upgrading HPUX to 11.0 from 10.20. There are various application software (MirrorUX, COBOL Dev. bundle, C dev. bundle)installed on HPUX 10.20. After OS upgrade do I need to uninstall those application software and then install their version for HPUX 11.0.
or Can I just reinstall
or OS upgrade will take care other application upgrade as well?

Your help greatly appreciated

Re: HPUX upgrade to 11.0 from 10.20

Aftab,

The worst thing you could do is to attempt an "upgrade path" from 10.20 to 11.x. To save yourself countless hours of fustration, perform a cold install. But, before starting do this:

Create two make_recovery's and Two full system backups.

Cold install HPux 11.x using the latest patch bundle from December 2001.

Restore your "other" data.

Re: HPUX upgrade to 11.0 from 10.20

Hi,

It is advised to uninstall them, and then install them again after the upgrade. this is the cleanest way to do it, rather than upgrading the applications.

Re: HPUX upgrade to 11.0 from 10.20

I asked this same question once. I was over ruled & had to ignore advice given here & go for the upgrade from 10.20 to 11.0 option. In total it took us 15 & 18 hours for 2 machines - a total nightmare. Never again have we upgraded, we only ever cold install. If your boss insists on an upgrade show them this - ignore the advice already given at your own peril!

Just to add one more voice..
a cold install is by and far the recommended method by the folks who have to do it !! and live through it !

Since a cold install, blows out your system...you reinstall all your software. The tips that Steve gave above are good..I prefer to simply print out a bunch of files with the info needed (example: netconf, nfsconf, inetd.conf, inetd.sec, ftpaccess, hosts if you have it set up...and so forth) and I also make a seperate tape where I put these files that I can then copy back..
Here is a thread I kept handy...it mentions a more thorough list of files you want to watch for..:

Pete,

The person/people that over ruled you probably didn't have to live through the "upgrade" nightmare did they :-) ??

Re: HPUX upgrade to 11.0 from 10.20

From doing several upgrades and having taken the HP class on the upgrade here is my 2 cents

If the only reason you want ot upgrade vs cold install is HP programs ..do the cold Install, the worst part will be getting your license codes from HP

if you have other programs and/or applications that you would rather upgrade then re-install here is the best way to go at it.
make all the preperations and backups as if you are doing a cold install
attempt to do the upgrade, if it fails once, give up and do the cold install

Re: HPUX upgrade to 11.0 from 10.20

This is application server for PeopleSoft. It has PeopleSoft application (HRMS & Financial) and BEA's TUXEDO installed. I don't know much about PeopleSoft application and TUXEDO. So I thought it would be simple to just upgrade OS and application. Now it seems complicated as you guys are recommending cold install. Let me get some detail about PeopleSoft application then I will decide which method is appropriate for me.
Anyway thanks lot for your input.

Re: HPUX upgrade to 11.0 from 10.20

Personally, I would do this:

mv PeopleSoft /dev/null

Just kidding, Honestly, you DO need to contact PeopleSoft and get a version of their code that has been Certified to run on 11i. Oh yeah, Why bother using 11.00 when you have 11i available?
