Re: hpux w/s hanging
hi,
hmmm, high load, abnormal high system load (see SYS)
running low on memory?? so system swapping? --> check swapinfo or sar -w
--> system no hanging but working slow due to swapping?
regards,
Thierry.

All unix flavours are exactly the same . . . . . . . . . . for end users anyway.

Re: hpux w/s hanging
Mangesh --
There are three approachs to take to this sort of problem:
#1) Do a transfer of control (TC) of the box and have the crash dump looked at for possible cause.
#2) Make sure that you check the hardware logs via cstm to see if there is something going on HW wise.
#3) To see what is eating up the CPU, after you telnet in, you can repeat this command several times:
ps -ef | cut -c42-80 | sort -nr | head
This will list which processes are using up a lot of CPU.
#4) It sounds like "X" is what is hanging based on your description (i.e. that you can telnet in). Make sure you have the latest X-Server patches loaded for your OS level.
Also, please post what type of system you have and how much DEVICE swap you have. You should have at least 2x RAM worth of device swap available.
Best regards,
