No requirement to upgrade to 4.1.
You may have some trouble with hpsim, and have to remove the old version and then install a newer version after the upgrade to 4.2
Note that 4.0 supports Windows Server 2003 IA-64, 4.2 supports Windows Server 2008 IA-64 the last version Microsoft intends to release PA-RISC.
There is no version of HPVM that supports both Windows versions.

If I am right, you must have used ITRC patch assessment tool.
This is used to check the patch level. It will never check your product level!!
