HPVM guest installation is not working using ignite?
Shell> bcfg boot dump
The boot option list is:
01. VenHw(D65A6B8C-71E5-4DF0-A909-F0D2992B5AA9) "EFI Shell [Built-in]"
02. Acpi(PNP0A03,0)/Pci(0|0)/Mac(7AB6DCBB22F3) "lan0boot"
Network is available to start installation using ignite. My ignite server is not in the same subnet as this VM Host/Guest. So I tried by dbprofile as below
Shell> dbprofile -dn testprofile -sip 10.248.62.36 -cip 10.248.142.63 -gip 10.24
8.143.250 -m 255.255.248.0 -b "/opt/ignite/boot/nbp.efi"
Updating profile testprofile
Shell> lanboot select -dn testprofile
01 Acpi(PNP0A03,0)/Pci(0|0)/Mac(7AB6DCBB22F3)
02 Acpi(PNP0A03,0)/Pci(1|0)/Mac(DA2DAEF2A052)
03 Acpi(PNP0A03,0)/Pci(4|0)/Mac(7681099FB791)
Select Desired LAN: 01
PXE-E16: Valid PXE offer not received.
Exit status code: Invalid Parameter
Pease advise me where I am missing any configuration and see below the VM configuration. Thanks .. MJ

Re: HPVM guest installation is not working using ignite?
Have a look at the ignite server syslog, if you are reaching the ignite server you should see some error messages on the syslog of the ignite server.
have a look if your network is working from the efi shell:

Re: HPVM guest installation is not working using ignite?
The Ignite FAQ (http://www.docs.hp.com/en/IUX/faq.html#d0e2352) describes the problem and solution:
The "PXE-E16: Valid PXE offer not received" error indicates that the client
did not receive a valid message from either a BOOTP or DHCP server.
Itaniumà ®-based clients differ from PA-RISC clients because the Ignite-UX
instl_bootd boot protocol server can not be used. The Configure Booting IP
Addresses button on the Server Configuration tab of the Ignite-UX GUI and
the /etc/opt/ignite/inst_boottab file do not apply to Itaniumà ®-based clients.
Instead, a BOOTP/DHCP server such as HP-UX bootpd must be configured
and /etc/bootptab entries made for each client.
The "Ignite Administration Guide" (http://docs.hp.com/en/B2355-
90872/index.html) explains how modify the bootptab in Appendix B,
section "Using bootptab as an Alternative to DHCP"
90872/apbs03.html).

Re: HPVM guest installation is not working using ignite?
"My ignite server is not in the same subnet as this VM Host/Guest. So I tried by dbprofile"
I have never been able to work with dbprofiles between a VM client and an Ignite Server, even in the same subnet. It does not necessarily mean that it doesn't work but IMHO I suspect it doesn't.
So the solution is to configure a boot-helper. You will find more details in "Appendix D Using a Boot-Helper System" at http://docs.hp.com/en/5992-1959/apd.html
An other solution could be to give a temporary connection to the VM in the same subnet than the Ignite server. Is it possible ?
Hope this will help
I also suggest you take a look at http://forums12.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/helptips.do?#28 and http://forums12.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/helptips.do?#33

Eric

Re: HPVM guest installation is not working using ignite?
[ ] Media only installation
[ ] Media with Network enabled (allows use of SD depots)
[ * ] Ignite-UX server based installation
I used Ignite server and it did work. I got HP-UX installation of VM guest using ignite server golden image successfully. But I will test boot helper again so that next time I can use boot helper.
Thank you very much all of you guys to give me good suggestions.

Only need to update/build help ISO when your version of Ignite changes.

Re: HPVM guest installation is not working using ignite?
Boot helper didn't work ? I am a beat surprised ...
You had a really goog idea with booting with Install CD then choose Ignite installation.
So it gave me an idea that could avoid booting from CD : have a "partial" Ignite Server on the host server itself.
Ignite or Golden images can still stay on the "remote" Ignite Server, that is the goal of the local Server is only to give an IP via DHCP and to deliver the /opt/ignite/boot/nbp.efi via TFTP.
So Install Ignite software on VM Host, configure minimum informations on the local VM Host, that is bootptab and ensure that tftp is properly configured (this point should be OK after Ignite installation)
Once done, boot your VM with 'lanboot select' and the local VM Host Ignite server should give you IP and boot loader. Then select "Install HP-UX", "Guided/Advanced/..." what ever you want, then the same LAN, and on the next screen (NETWORK CONFIGURATION) control that IP configuration is correct, in particular gateway address, and MODIFY the "IP address of the Ignite-UX server system" field to point to the remote Ignite Server.
If think it should work well like this
What about it ?

Eric
