HPVM Guest Windows 2008 R2 installation fails
just tried to install Windows 2008 R2 for Itanium into a HPVM V4.1 guest (with and without EBSU Smart Setup) and it fails with this after loading some files rom the MS Windows 2008 MSDN DVD for Itanium:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause . .
Status: 0xc00000bb
Info: An unexpected error has occured.
The same thing happens after installing the HPVM Patches for Windows 2008 guests as described in the HPVM V4.1 Release Notes.
I know that W2k8 R2 is not supported yet to run as a HPVM, but has anybody an idea what could be wrong here?
Thanks & best Regards,
Arnold

Re: HPVM Guest Windows 2008 R2 installation fails
The reason its not supported is it doesn't work, hasn't been tested.
HP might be interested in seeing your results, but my sources say they are working on a major HPVM upgrade that will support the Windows platform you desire.
So basically, submit your results to HP and wait.

Re: HPVM Guest Windows 2008 R2 installation fails
thought so. In the mean time, I will try w2k8 sp2 to see wether I'll get better results.
SEP: when are your sources expecting to release "the major HPVM upgrade" you mentioned (just out of interest)?
Thanks & best Regards,
Arnold

Re: HPVM Guest Windows 2008 R2 installation fails
This is a new patch that adds support for w2k8
Als, I assume you are using the correct media? It must be 64bit IA architecture Windows

Re: HPVM Guest Windows 2008 R2 installation fails
yes, I have (the Microsoft RTM Media type from MSDN though).
Now I have downloaded the w2k8 sp2 media and wonder how I can create the unattend_xml.iso mentioned in the HPVM V4.1 RN without having a running HPVM Windows Guest . .

Re: HPVM Guest Windows 2008 R2 installation fails
Yes - it's not supported - why would you expect it to work if its not been tested and qualified - reasons could be many, suffice to say if you want to run W2K8 in a HPVM, you need to stick to SP1

Re: HPVM Guest Windows 2008 R2 installation fails
with a helper HPVM Win2k3, I managed to get an unattend.xml file with the right format recognized by the Win2k8 MS Installation DVD and could thus install Win2k8 ia64.
Now I wonder where I find the AVIO Drivers for Win2k8, since those supplied are for Win2k3 . .
Also, are there any other guest tools to be installed?
Best Regards,
Arnold
