hpvm hpvmdynmem message

HI,

one on my hpvm guest generated the following message :

vmunix: hpvmdynmem: unable to reach target memory size of 5690 MB after 60 seconds, resulting memory size is 8186MB

Any idea what is this mean?

This Guest has 8GB of memory and 5GB as target memory.

Thanks in advance

Re: hpvm hpvmdynmem message

When a VM guest boots it requires its maximum configured memory at boot time, which in this case is 8GB.  It then attempts to select pages to remove to get down to its configured target memory size, which in this case is 5GB.  If the system is not able to identify sufficient memory pages it gives up and leaves the guest at the max memory footprint.  Usually this failure to reduce memory is a result of excessive memory fragmentation.

Which version of HPVM are you running and what do you have base_pagesize configured to on the VM Host?

Dave
