I/O error. Please check your I/O subsystem.

Hi,

I want to know how to identify if there is an I/O error. As i got reply from SAP for MaxDB database crash as "The error 'Bad file number' is an error from operating system and indicates an I/O error. Please check your I/O subsystem."

We have an HP Blade Server 860c i2 and running OS HP-UX 11.31. The disks space is allocated from EMC Clarrion CX4-240.

The complete error from SAP is as below,

we checked the database log files during the time when the database was
crashed. The error

Synchronous read from DATA_VOLUME_0003 on /sapdb/TCP/sapdata3/DISKD0003
returned 'Bad file number' (9),_FILE=RTEIO_Volume.cpp,_LINE=750
page number : 1880817
position : 15407661056 bytes
wanted length : 8191 bytes
An error occurred while accessing a volume,NUMBER1=4,ERRORTEXT=io error
,NUMBER=1,BLOCK_NO=1880817,VOLUME_ID=3,VOLUME_TYPE=data,_FI
LE=IOMan_Volume.cpp,_LINE=527

appears. The error 'Bad file number' is an error from operating system
and indicates an I/O error. Please check your I/O subsystem.

Thanks,

Narendra

Re: I/O error. Please check your I/O subsystem.

Hi

Login to the Blade. Do vgdisplay -v and check for erros in disks.

Also:

ioscna -funC disk, and see if you have disks with no HW
