I want to restore data from broken hard disk.

HI

hp-ux 11i version1,model A500

Hard disk was broken one of two.
It cannot boot init LEVEL3,but can boot Singleusermode.
Boot-fail was cased during booting swap area.

Singleusermode(using ISL>"hpux -is" or "hpux -lm") cannot see below /usr/sbin.
So , important command cannot use this case.
Important command -> more,view,fbackupтАж

I want to do what is booting Singleusermode, and
using fbackup several data to the tape.

Please tell me anyone who know restoring data from broken hard disk.
Or can it be done.

sorry , my English is poor

Re: I want to restore data from broken hard disk.

did you try mount command after entering single user mode. After you get the prompt in single user mode run mount -a
AFter which you'll see /usr mounted and you can backup all the files you desire.

Re: I want to restore data from broken hard disk.

Thank you Rajeev Shukla !

I tryed mount -a .
but, i didn't mount for the following reasons.

/dev/vg00/lvol1 /stand disk1
/dev/vg00/lvol2 swap disk1
/dev/vg00/lvol3 / disk1
/dev/vg00/lvol4 /home disk1
/dev/vg00/lvol5 /tmp disk1
/dev/vg00/lvol6 /tmp disk1
/dev/vg00/lvol7 /u01 disk2
/dev/vg00/lvol8 /usr disk2
/dev/vg00/lvol9 /var disk2
etc
disk1 is normal,
disk2 is broken,

#mount -a
or
#mount /usr
can't succeed.

because disk2 is broken.
I/O error occurs.

Thank you Chan 007 !

my English is poor.
So your attachment doc read about one day.
It reads deliberately from now.

Re: I want to restore data from broken hard disk.

It's may be not usefull to do a backup now without

/dev/vg00/lvol7 /u01 disk2
/dev/vg00/lvol8 /usr disk2
/dev/vg00/lvol9 /var disk2

Consider to replace the bad disk and restore your last backup.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: I want to restore data from broken hard disk.

if you cant mount /usr which is on the disk2 which has failed, then how can you mount /u01 which i beleive is the data you want to backup.
If your disk2 has completely failed then i am afraid you cant backup from this failed disk.

Re: I want to restore data from broken hard disk.

If you still have one internal hardisk and it was a mirred setup with LVM, try to boot it overriding the quorum requirement:

ISP> hpux -lq

Then the system should come up in run level 3 without its mirror.
