IAVA 2002-A-SNMP-0003

We are not running Openview but we do have the snmp daemon running. Do we need to apply the patch as suggested in IAVA 2002-A-SNMP-0003?

You need to install the following patch:

PHSS_26138 s700_800 11.x OV EMANATE 14.2 Agent Consolidated Patch

Although PHSS_26138 is labeled for OpenView Emanate, it replaces snmpdm, and according to ITRC, this means it secures systems regardless of where OpenView products are involved.

The following URL clarifies SNMP issues that
are answered in an FAQs manner http://www.cert.org/tech_tips/snmp_faq.html . If you are not using OpenView
environment including NNM (Network Node Mgr), EMS High Availability Monitors or Service Guard Mgr, disabling
SNMP wouldn`t harm system functionality.
the suggestions on this site http://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/IAFY-53NHGD, should be able to help you
completing the resolution.
