Ibm DDS4 support

I try to connect an IBM 7206 model 4mm dds4 tape drive on an HP L1000 HP-UX
It is no recognised.
any idea ?

Hi,

Even if you can get it recognised the only command that will work with it is tar (hopefully). HP like to install their own firmware on tape drives to ensure it will work with their hardware and software. Foreign drives like yours are unsupported and I doubt you will be able to get it to work.

First check the SCSI connection, including cable and termination.

Also check the *type* of SCSI, especially Differential versus Single-Ended. Many HP interfaces are Differential. Many 'PC' peripherals are Single-Ended.

In addition to the Lvd/Scsi reply
On witch interface card do you plan to connect your drive ? and how much legnth your cable is.
I suggest you to consult the Hp docs (and web site) to compare values. I personnaly connected various Dlt drives on L or N series computers, so it could work, but check compatibility of both card/drive.
As far as I remember, the main Ultra3 connecter support Lvd only.
