IBM - Seagate disks

I just installed two additional disks into the internal bus of a 9000/D. The two original disks and one of the new disks description from ioscan -fnC disk is : Segate ST39173WC. The other new disk is IBM DGHS09Y.
Are these drives equivalent, just differnet manufaturers or do I have a bad disk?
PS. I did move the disk in question to the fifth slot and it came up the same. Now how do I remove the unwanted disk that has a state of NO_HW ?

Re: IBM - Seagate disks

Hi Louis,

Yes they are equivalent. No need to worry about that. I have the same ioscan output on my system with a mix of those drives.

Hope this helps.

thanks

Re: IBM - Seagate disks

Hi Louis,

Sorry i missed the part about NO_HW. Do you mean to say that you have a disk on the same channel that shows NO_HW. Can you post your ioscan output for the disk. If it is a defective disk, remove it, but if it is a working disk, it should not be showing NO_HW.

Thanks

Re: IBM - Seagate disks

Thanks for your reply.
No, I originally put the disk in question in the third slot and when the IBM id came up I moved it to the fifth slot and got the same id. I was checking to see if it was controller related.
Now the third slot has status=NO_HW. How do I remove that "ghost" description from the third slot?

Re: IBM - Seagate disks

HI
You can try rmsf on the H/W path in question and again insf -e to install device files.

Thanks.
Prashant.
Take it as it comes.

Re: IBM - Seagate disks

Hi Louis,

I think you are getting the NO-HARDWARE message
becouse you haven't reboot your system after
moving your drive.
