Ignite a K from a L make_recovery tape
Does anyone know or verified that you can create a Ignite-UX make_recovery tape made from a L class server (HP-UX 11.0) and then 'ignite' a K system from that tape? In the past, we have done D to K and K to D, but never crossed the between 64-bit only servers (N/L) to 32/64 bit servers (D/K).
Thank you in advance.

Re: Ignite a K from a L make_recovery tape
Hi,
If you want to clone an L-class to a K-class, then the K-class requires a 64-bit processor, as the L-class installation was 64-bit.
The success of a restore of an Ignite tape on any other server (even same server class) always depends on hardware 'similarities' (or differences :). I'm affraid you just gonna have to find out.
regards,
Thierry.

Re: Ignite a K from a L make_recovery tape
Without being able to give you a lot of details, you need to look at make_sys_image as the way to clone from one model to another. Make recovery brings over too much system specific stuff from your source host.
I had an HP ASE do this for me a couple of years ago. I should have gotten more knowledge transfer on the subjet. We just ran out of time. So look at make_sys_image and maybe others can give more details.

Rich,
By the time you screwed around with trying to get it to work, you'll find that a cold install was faster.
