IGNITE an L2000 that only has a DVD reader.

I have an L2000 running HPUX 11.11 that I am trying to ignite. The server does not have a tape drive! It has a DVD READER. How can I create an image for the server? Please keep it simple I am not a UNIX expert. I do have a DVD burner on my PC.

Hi,
- Do a fresh install fron the Installasion CD.
- Configure an Ignite server if possible (the best solution but need some work).
- Do you have any external tape drive ?

The server is a production server. I am trying to back it up. I do not have an external tape drive.

Hi Matthew,

If you have an Ignite server you can do a make_net_recovery image to it across the network.
man the command for details
It's really your only option w/o having a local tape drive.

Hi,
Do you have another HP-UX server in your enviroment. As mentioned in my previous reply, the best solution in your case is an Ignite server. Then you can backup/restore your HP-UX servers via the LAN.

the most easy way to do an ignite backup is to write to a (external) tape. You may also write to a scsi-CD/DVD burner, directly connected to your machine. If you have a second hp-ux system, you are able to setup an ignite server and backup your L-Class over network. BTW, do you have ANY backup from this system???
