Ignite an RP2470 from an N-Class - Possible?

This is an option I have when planning a swap between an N class and an rp2470. I would prefer to do this rather than a clean build for various reasons. Does anyone know of good reasons NOT to do this?
Thanks in advance

It is possible. Its not guaranteed but you can certainly try it. Ive managed to ignite a whole variety of HP servers to completely different model servers, mostly successful, ocassionally unsuccessful.
Im from Palmerston North, New Zealand, but somehow ended up in London...

Re: Ignite an RP2470 from an N-Class - Possible?

Hi Paul:

This should work. Be ready to load LAN and perhaps fibre channel drivers after the Ignite process should there be differences in drivers. My preference, however, still would be to cold-install and patch the new server from scratch. In either case (Ignite or cold-install) you still have to 'vgimport' disk and configure networking. Therefore, while the Ignite process may be faster, the cold-install is cleaner.

Re: Ignite an RP2470 from an N-Class - Possible?

I know of no reason why you should not. I've done this for L-->D and N-->K (yep wrong way!!). The only bit of advice I would give is

1 - Make sure you have Applocation CD's as things like Tachyon drives may need to be re-installed or if there are new cards not installed on the N.
2 - Patch it up to what you would patch a rp7400 (i.e. about Jan 2002 -> Mar 2002 patches).

If your N is old (440MHz thing) you may find that things like fibre cards have changed, hence point 1.

Tim

You say you have used a N Ignite tape to Ignite a K?

How did you manage this? The N uses WINSTALL, the K & D etc INSTALL and the V VINSTALL.

I'd be very interested to know how you mananged this, as I have a number of instances where I am required to do this.

Sean.
You did what with rm -r!!!!!

Sean,

In a interactive boot, you can manually override what INSTALL to used.
