Ignite ux:
Hi people, I wanted to ask about disaster recovery using ignite ux. Now the situation is this that the servers are running application and we have to take the image of vg00, so what r the steps to be taken to get a backup image. Right now the tape libraries look like this
# ioscan -fnkC tape
Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type
Description
==========================================================
===========
tape 0 1/0/2/1/0.2.0 stape CLAIMED DEVICE

/dev/rmt/c5t1d0BEST
/dev/rmt/c5t1d0BESTb
/dev/rmt/c5t1d0BESTn

My other question is that when i take a back up and give the path /dev/rmt/1m or /dev/rmt/1mb. What is the difference between the both???. Is it that /1mb is a different sector on the litrium tape??. Kindly shed some light on that.

Solution
First figure out which tape drive you want to use for your make_tape_recovery tape. I would use the DDS drive, but it is up to you.
The command I use is:
# /opt/ignite/bin/make_tape_recovery -a /dev/rmt/0mn -I -v -m tar -x inc_entire=vg00
To see what all of those options mean have a look at 'man make_tape_recovery'.
To answer your second question, the difference is:
1m -- The tape WILL NOT rewind when the backup finishes and it uses AT&T tape behavior.
1mb - The tape WILL NOT rewind when the backup finishes and it uses Berkely tape behavior.
More information can be found here:
http://docs.hp.com/en/B2355-60127/mt.7.html

Re: ignite and tape query
Hi:
Use the '1mn' (no rewind device with 'make_tape_recovery'. The 'b' device specifies Berkeley-style tape behavior whereas the absence denotes AT&T behavior. The differences are described in the manpages for 'mt(7)'
http://www.docs.hp.com/en/B2355-60127/mt.7.html
Use the following to make an Ignite recovery image of vg00:
/opt/ignite/bin/make_tape_recovery -x inc_entire=vg00 -I -v -a /dev/rmt/1mn
Regards!
