Ignite and used exclude option - strange message returned

I am using Ignite with the make_tape_recovery command and used the following option to exclude it from backing up a particular file (jss). So I typed it in as follows:

.... -x exclude=/etc/rc.config.d/jss

And the ignite is running, but I get a message in the logs that "has no effect because essential files override this command." and I don't know why???

Anyone else seen this?

Angie

NOTE: Command 'exclude /etc/rc.config.d/jss' has no effect because essential
files override this command.

Re: Ignite and used exclude option - strange message returned

I'm guessing here but if this is in the essential file list then you cant without editing this file

/opt/ignite/recovery/mnr_essentials

refer to this pdf for a comprehensive explanation.

Hope this helps

Re: Ignite and used exclude option - strange message returned

Thanks for that document.
It looks like, on page 173 of that particular document, that I won't be able to exclude this file. See below:

Archive Configuration Policies

"When specifying archive content for both make_net_recovery and make_tape_recovery, either via the Ignite-UX GUI or the command line, the following rules apply:"

├в ┬в No essential file or directory can be excluded.

Do you all agree? I am going to assume that there is no way to exclude it and will deal with it.

Thanks..An

Yes, I agree 100 %. /etc/rc.config.d is a VERY important directory and typically the files in that directory are small and do not take up a whole lot of space. I wouldn't think you would gain much by excluding just the one file from within that directory.

Yes you are correct you cannot exclude anything under /etc without removing /etc from the essential files list. As per my understanding.

You could in theory, remove /etc from the essential list, create an include list that contained /etc, and then an exlude list that exluded the file in question.

Although, I would not recommend doing so.

As stated, that file shouldn't be overly large. So I wouldn't think you would gain much from exluding this one file.
