Ignite automation
All -
I'm just getting started with automating ignite (pre/post install scripts, etc). I'm actually in charge of setting up our entire ignite environment across the WAN, so I'm hoping to emulate all the functionality that we have in our current jumpstart environment and perhaps improve it.
However, there are a couple of things that I haven't figured out yet, and I was wondering if you could point me to a good reference for these items or perhaps just answer the questions.
I'd like to be able to bypass the initial "target OS" screen for my clients. I'd like to be able to configure them on the server such that the boot helper recognizes the MAC address, assigns the networking information, and knows what OS or golden image to install on that box. This would really help in ensuring our ability to rebuild our boxes exactly as they were originally built (an absolute must in a government-regulated environment). I found the file the I can use to assign the IP based on MAC, but not the rest of it.
Ideally, I'd like to be able to put all this information in NIS (for example, we have an ethers map that correlates ethernet address to hostname), but from what I've seen so far, if I want to do that, I'll have to write a script that pulls it out of NIS and puts the information in the appropriate files.
What's the best guide you've found for automating Ignite?
Lance
