I create an archive of my root vg.
make_tape_recovery -Iv -a /dev/rmt/0mn -x inc_entire=vg00.
I want to restore this to a new 36GB hard disk. I don't want to increase the size of root or any filesystems but want to have the remaining 18GB free space to allocate it to a different file system.
I don't have onlineJFS installed nor do i have mirror-ux.
Pls help
Regards
naveej

Re: Ignite backup from 18GB to a 36GB disk
1)During the recovery, do i need to go on with an advanced installation or use the Install HPUX normally.
2)Will the Max PE per PV for my VG00 get autmatically increased from 4350 to 8700 during my restore to the 36GB hard disk??
points will be assigned after i complete the restore tomorrow night!!

SolutionWhat is your concern? You don't need to have OnlineJFS nor mirrorUX.
You can boot the system with 36 GB with the same Ignite tape and restore it on the 36 GB drive. It will make use of only 18 GB and leave the rest 18 free in vg00.
You can create a new lvol and filesystem on it.

Re: Ignite backup from 18GB to a 36GB disk
1.You need to go into the Advanced Installation and select your new 36 GB as your root disk. This automatically extends your MAXPE. If you want you can change your Filesystem/Swap sizes.
2.Yes. It will increase the Max PE per PV for your VG00 automatically from 4350 to 8700 during your restore to the 36GB hard disk.
Hope this helps.

Re: Ignite backup from 18GB to a 36GB disk
to clear it, my concern was only about the max pe per pv of my root vg.
i knew that i don't required onlinejfs or mirrorux to do it. but if had a mirror ux i could simply add the 36GB hdd to the root VG and lvextend -m 0 to copy the lvs in the lvm maintenance mode. and then reduce to remove the mirror copy.

Re: Ignite backup from 18GB to a 36GB disk
U can carry out with Guided Installation instead of Advanced Installation.
Advanced Installation is enabled to customize the system, thro Adv. Installation u can change the LVM settings and set system parameters, network services, file-system characteristics.
But in ur case u can carry out with guided installation.
These will leave the 18 GB free.
All the best

Re: Ignite backup from 18GB to a 36GB disk
The only concern which I think logical is that, Whether you are using a disk which is connected to the existing interface or a new interface whose driver does not exist in the existing kernel !. In the latter , you may have to install the driver , make a recovery and then try a restore !
All the best !
