Ignite Client Problem

I have recently made a backup of an ignite client with the make_net_recovery command. But when i try to re-install the unix to the client by going to install client --> new install, I keep getting a messgae which says, "Client is not ready for install yet"
Has anyone ever come across this before. There was a previous post on this issue but unfortunatley the resolution to this problem was not posted

Re: Ignite Client Problem

Hi asif,

What is the client color (you can see this in a X environment like Reflection or Exceed)?

PS: see also this FAQ's about the forum spirit:

Re: Ignite Client Problem

Hi again Asif,

Do you have the latest Ignite version (I have B.5.4.50)? The first versions had many bugs...

If you don't, get the latest at:

Re: Ignite Client Problem

Yes,

I have the latest version which is B5725AA, so i don't think that is the actual problem.

Re: Ignite Client Problem

Hi,

Presuming the client is accessible on the network and name resolution etc. is working.

The error message could appear if "bootsys" command is blocked from running on the client.
Check if you have ".bootsys_block" file under "/" directory on the client.
If the file exists and is empty , bootsys won't be run on the client and the installation process would fail with the message.

Re: Ignite Client Problem

You may need to grab the target's console and manually get the target talking to the server, especially if the target is "down".

Re: Ignite Client Problem

Thanks for the tips, but the client is up, there is full network connectivity and name resolution, so i don't know what the issue is.

Also there is no /.bootsys_block file.

Re: Ignite Client Problem

From the Ignite server: ping
From the target: ping

Also, try the bootsys command manually, so you can see any error msgs. How to do this documnted here: http://docs.hp.com/en/B2355-90893/ch05s04.html

Re: Ignite Client Problem

The host to server connectivity is ok.

I can re-install the client via the bootsys method and by doing

bo lan. install

The issue i am facing is with the clients that are being added to the ignite server by the make_net_recovery command. This process complete successfully but then when i right click on the same client and select install client --> new client, instead of getting the message, "Client is complete. Do you want to reinstall," i get "Client is not ready for install yet".

Re: Ignite Client Problem

Hi asif,

Did you added the client with "Actions -> Add New Client for Recovery..."?
