Ignite for PC ?

I understand that Ignite-UX is a "just" UNIX utility, but is there a HP supplied utility that does the same job (of creating bootable tapes) for Windows-based servers ?

TIA

Re: Ignite for PC ?

Hi,
We use "ghost" for network backup/restores of Windows servers and clients, it is not as good as Ignite but it works.

Re: Ignite for PC ?

IUX is as mentioned above an HPUX product, for intel we use a product called Ghost from Symantec. It does the job.

Re: Ignite for PC ?

Doesn't create bootable tapes, but a similar product for Windows is 'Norton Ghost':

Or if you have HP (compaq) kit you could look at one-button-disaster-recovery (OBDR):

or for a solution that works on UNIX and windows you could spend a fortune on netbackup and then use bare-metal-restore (BMR):

Re: Ignite for PC ?

At my last job the W2K group used Ghost.

Veritas also makes something, but I forget the name. Something like "BareMetal Restore". It holds images of your complete W2K OS for restore on the "bare metal".

Thanks for all your responses, I had suspected as much.

Re: Ignite for PC ?

Hello Ian,

I think Mondo is what you looking for: http://www.microwerks.net/~hugo/

What is Mondo?, disaster recovery suite for Linux and Windows.

Mondo is reliable. It backs up your GNU/Linux server or workstation to tape, CD-R, CD-RW or NFS partition. In the event of catastrophic data loss, you will be able to restore all of your data [or as much as you want], from bare metal if necessary. Mondo is in use by Nortel Networks, Siemens, HP (US and France), IBM, NASA's JPL, dozens of smaller companies, and tens of thousands of users.

Good Luck,

Re: Ignite for PC ?

You might look at Stomp, Inc software for backups including making a bootable recovery CD (tapes on PC's are pretty unusual or pretty darn small). CD-R and CD-RW drives are very common and inexpensive. The software runs about $80 for a single user.

Re: Ignite for PC ?

I'll endorse Ghost. The later versions even let you make a bootable restore cd set.
