ignite from an rp7410 to an rp8420
Hi all,
Is it possible to restore an rp7410 to an rp8420 using ignite. Is the hardware architecture similar to be able to complete this restore successfully?
Thanks
AC

Re: ignite from an rp7410 to an rp8420
Hi,
It depends what OS your Ignite image from your rp7410 is. The rp8420 has dual core CPUs which are not supported on HP-UX versions older than 11.11 v1. As such, if your Ignite image from your rp7410 is for example 11.00 then it won't work and you'll get all kinds of scary kernel errors that don't make much sense.
Hope that helps - Lee.

Re: ignite from an rp7410 to an rp8420
Hi Achille,
You needs to do the following on RP7410 before ignite backup.
1. Install the December 2003 HWE or Latest HWE Bundle
2. Install the December 2003 QPK or latest QPK Bundle
3. Install the latest Ignite Client software
4. Take the backup and restore on RP8420 it will work.
We Already upgraded successfully from RP8400 to RP8420 with the above method. Both RP7410 and RP8400 are of same hardware
Hope this helps

Re: ignite from an rp7410 to an rp8420
The hardware is simlar and you might get away with this. For a less hardware dependent way to go you may wish to look at Golden Images.
I would want to test this prior to doing it in real life.
You might want to get an appointment with your local HP performance center to try this out.
