IGNITE / Make Recovery

Hi,

Currently, we are doing make recovery in our servers but tape drive of 1 of our servers is not working. I suppose to use external DDS tape drive but the problem is there is no slot for the scsi type external drive in our server. Is it possible to use tape drives from other servers? how?

Thank you so much in advance.

Re: IGNITE / Make Recovery

Bonjour Tristan,

I don't think there is a simple way to use a remote tape drive with make_tape_recovery.

In this case, why don't you use make_net_recovery. You have several servers, so you can design 2 of them as Ignite server. 2 or more, but 2 is a minimum.

Then Ignite Server no 1 will store its own archives on Ignite Server no 2, Ignite Server no 2 will store its own archives on Ignite Server no 1. For all others server no matter where they store there archives. If you have two different rooms it can be a criteria.

If your servers are on the same subnet it is pretty easy to restore a box from an ignite server.

What you need is space. It depends how you do your image. Generally it is between 3 an 4Go for each saved server.

One main avantage of this technique is that you have no more tape to manipulate. Just schedule make_net_recovery ... and enjoy.

Hope this will help

Re: IGNITE / Make Recovery

you can use a ignite server to create the ignite backup.
how to set it up is already written in the forums, one example is

Re: IGNITE / Make Recovery

DDS tape drives are hot pluggable.

If u want to plug external tape drive, you need

1. scsi interface.
2. terminator
3. scsi cable

ensure first and reboot the server. the interrupt for 10 seconds

then put command "sea"

It will show your DDS tape interface.

Re: IGNITE / Make Recovery

Hi Tristan:

In new versions i think that you can use remote tape in command line you must put the remote tape:

make_recovery ....-d/-a :/dev/rmt/

Re: IGNITE / Make Recovery

Shalom,

Tape drivers on other sytems are not available to make_tape_recovery (or make_recovery G-d forbid).

make_net_recovery should be used to an NFS share.
