Ignite new 11.23 server from ILO

I've been given an assignment to ignite a new 11.23 server at a remote site from the ILO. I've not done this before. In the past I've only done this via a console connection (local and remote) on a PA-RISC server, not an Itanium.

The support team at the remote site will be loading an ignite tape in the server. And I have remote access to the ILO, which I presume is a remote console.

Does someone have a written procedure which I can follow to get me through this please?

ILO will give you the console prompt of the server. Note, that booting from tape on Integrity (Itanium) servers will require to add tape as a boot option in EFI shell.

For more see kb document - http://www11.itrc.hp.com/service/cki/docDisplay.do?docLocale=en&docId=emr_na-c01047087-2

The iLO/MP will connect you to the console if configured correctly.

Depending on the server type and firmware version the server will support or not support the *direct* boot from tape.

If not supported, you need to boot from an install DVD first in order to be able to restore the image from tape (a.k.a. two step recovery).

Hope this helps!

I confirm, you must boot from dvd first on Itanium.
see details in attachement.

Not always - it depends really on the server model and firmware version.

The direct boot from tape is enabled for most Integrity servers now, either at initial release or by a later firmware update.

But basically the restore process works the same way as on PA-RISC servers (except the initial boot).

Hope this helps!

Shalom,

ILO is a console.

Its not very different than being physically connected to the system.

The only real question I have is whether you need an enhanced iLo license to do the install or it can be done with the standard license.

For DL class systems, which I have a lot of iLo experience on, one merely connects to the systems web page on port 2301, http://hostname:2301 gives the root user id and password and you have several options to open a java based remote console.

Hi,

If you are installing the server using ignite server then you need to add new server into your ignite server.
After that you can install the server from your ignite server (remotely).

Please see the "Ignite-UX Administration Guide" chapter 5 for more details.

Please use the below link for this
