I am trying to clone a V class.
I have an Igite tape created with make_tape_recovery.
The "clone" server boots up from disk or cd.
At boot command prompt, I enter "search" and see the following...
Command: sea
Searching for Devices with Bootable Media.
Sel Path Device Type (autoexecute file?)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
P0 4/1/0.0.0 Tape : HP C1537A HP02
P1 2/1/0.11.0 Disk : SEAGATE ST39173WC HP11 (yes)
P2 1/0/0.6.0 Disk : SEAGATE ST39173WC HP11 (yes)
Then I attempt to boot from the tape and get this...
Command: bo p0
Device : 4/1/0.0.0
File : hpux
Arguments : hpux
SCSI device timeout. no response after selection. sdid 0
resetting SCSI bus
SCSI device timeout. no response after selection. sdid 0
resetting SCSI bus
SCSI device timeout. no response after selection. sdid 0
resetting SCSI bus
SCSI device timeout. no response after selection. sdid 0
resetting SCSI bus
Boot device is not a LIF volume.
At this point, I can "boot pri" and the system comes up from the disk.
After the system is up, I can read/write to the /dev/rmt/0mn device with no problem.
I could read the LIF info from the tape.
See http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0xe869c1c4ceddd61190050090279cd0f9,00.html for info about that.
So far, I have tried a 2nd tape and we have installed a scsi terminator.
Any other ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Solution
Hi!
Did you already check AUSRCKBRC00000768...
http://www4.itrc.hp.com/service/cki/docDisplay.do?docLocale=en_US&docId=200000063235059
They assume Teststation software >= 4.3 and SYMBIOS (SCSI card) firmware >= 7.0. And they recommend to run SEA multiple times before attempting to boot from tape.
Regards...
Dietmar.

Re: Ignite of V class failure
As I previously implied...
Have you tried "hpux :VINSTALL"
sometimes the AUTO file does not contain exactly what you want!

Re: Ignite of V class failure
Thanks for the info.
I just got off the phone with HP and found that the teststation diags version is 1.1.
They recomended having it upgraded to 3.2.2 before continuing.
As far as using "hpux VINSTALL", I don't know how to do this and designate the tape drive.
