Ignite prior to Ver B3.4

Hi

I have a server with fibre cards A3740A and require an earlier version of ignite.

This version should be prior to B3.4.

Any pointers of email gratefully received.

Re: Ignite prior to Ver B3.4

Get hold of the Feb 2001 installation CDs, the Ignite software in there should be version 3.2.

Re: Ignite prior to Ver B3.4

just out of interest, this is a known issue and an internal Enhancement Request has been filed to change the behaviour of make_recovery/make_tape_recovery to produce a
message before tape creation which states the supportability of the card BEFORE a tape is created.
I believe you may have to go back to either an A version, as the B.3 versions are all based on the HP-UX 11i kernel which does not support the old A3740A FC cards.

These older versions are probably available on your Application CD set.

Re: Ignite prior to Ver B3.4

Hi

The card problem arose when by mistake a later version was used on this server.

Making the tape no errors, but upon recovery OH DEAR.

Re: Ignite prior to Ver B3.4

Sadly that is the issue, that you only know on recovery. Hence the request to have it alert the user before proceeding to make the tape.

Re: Ignite prior to Ver B3.4

Hi Melvyn,

I agree I need the A version to support these cards.

I have just found out the Lee Oliver (Cosmos)is talking to you on the same problem.

He said get off the forum and fix his problem.

;^)

Seriously If we can identify which Apps release of 11.00 had the A version then problems solved.

Melvyn

Apps CD DEc 2000 has:-

B5725AA B.2.2.157 HP-UX Installation Utilities (Ignite-UX)

So search should be earlier than this.

Re: Ignite prior to Ver B3.4

Melvyn
I found this on release notes:-

4.16 PCI Tachyon card (A3740A) support issue
============================================

* The fibre channel PCI Tachyon card (A3740A) is not supported
in 11i. The B version of Ignite-UX used to install/recover an
11.00 system uses an 11i based kernel. Therefore it is not
possible to install/recover to any disk attached via the A3740A
card using the B version of Ignite-UX even though the card is
supported for 11.00. Note that it is possible to install/recover
to a disk attached to the A3740A card using a 11.00 core/install
CD, because it is 11.00 based.

As the 11i kernel is used then problems with these cards!!

It may be that an 11 sever in this configuration cannot use ignite and a card upgrade is required.

Re: Ignite prior to Ver B3.4

Just as an update, I hav ebeen informed that the B.3.xx versions are going ot see the issue with these cards, and a B.2.xx version needs to be used.
The info I have dug up shows B.2.6.358 for 11.00 is available on the December 2000 Application Release CD set.
