Ignite recovery for a DR system
Hello,
We have two different subnets, Production and Disaster Recovery. Each one has their own Ignite server.
The DR ignite server was originally configured when it was connected to the production subnet. Its clients at that time were the production systems and an Ignite network archive was created for each.
Then, the DR Ignite server was moved to the DR subnet and I started recovering from the original (production) clients to the DR clients.
After making a few changes, a couple systems were recovered from production to DR but two others are failing.
On one recover the failing is because of HP-Auto Port Aggregation and on the other because the DR system is HP-UX 11.11 but the archive is from HP-UX 11.31.
Despite being successful on two Ignite recovery archives from Production to DR, apparently the preferred way for doing this is a Golden Image.
I would like to know if this is true and, if so, what would be the steps for doing this kind of recovery.
Thank you,
Fidel

Re: Ignite recovery for a DR system
Shalom,
These recoveries should either work or not.
We really don't know enough to solve this issue.
A 11.31 image taken from an IA-64(Otherwise known as Itanium) can not be recovered to an 11.11 system which is PA-RISC.
I don't see why APA should stop the system recovery, the system should still build and simply not have networking. You would need post install to disable APA and configure the system to work without APA.
Golden image is not going to have any impact on the scenarios above.
Please post the following info on the failed recoveries source and destination systems:

Re: Ignite recovery for a DR system
Hi Steve,
Here are more details.
Case where Ignire recovery is complaining with HP-AutoPort Aggregation
Source machine:

Target: System is down and not booting
Model is rx2660
lanscan: From Ignite View Hardware:
LAN Interfaces:
Interface Name LAN Address Description H/W Path
/dev/lan0 001B789F4151 HP_PCI-X_1000Base-T 0/1/2/0
/dev/lan1 001B789F4150 HP_PCI-X_1000Base-T 0/1/2/1
On the other case, the source system is HP-UX 11.31 and target is HP-UX 11.11
Source:
# model
9000/800/rp3440
Target: 9000/800/rp4440
In this case, I'm thinking installing first HP-UX 11.31 on the target and then re doing the Ignite recover to make both systems, Production and DR, identical.
I'm attaching a screen capture of the recovery error.
Thank you for your prompt answer,
Fidel

Re: Ignite recovery for a DR system
as the log shows, you need to specify the '-R' option when booting the 11.11 client from the ignite-ux server, because you booted by default 11.11 kernel and you want to install 11.31 OS.
so add to the command line '-R B.11.31'

Re: Ignite recovery for a DR system
Hi g3jza,
Thank you for your reply.
I ran the command:
/opt/ignite/bootsys -wv -S -R B.11.31 usporx91 2>/var/tmp/daa022625
but it is giving the same error.
In the meantime, I will install 11.31 from DVD on the target and try again the Recovery to see if it works.

Re: Ignite recovery for a DR system
What I did was install HP-UX 11.31 and then the recovery.
It worked but I'm seen missing directories on /var and /opt.
I haven't assigned points to people and I want to do it.
How does it work now?
