Re: Ignite restoration on new hardware

Hi,

As far as I know, it is very tricky to recover from ignite tapes onto new hardware.

When I needed to do this for a disaster recovery project, I sent my ignite tapes to HP. They were able to 'translate' the tapes for me.

Sorry I can't be of more help, other than telling you what lazy old me did ;-)

Cheers

Hemant,

Remember that do you what you want to do those machines got to be very similar in hardware and architecture if not almost identical.

For more information please take a look at this document:

Re: Ignite restoration on new hardware

This is a significant jump in machine size. Ignite/UX is designed to recover the same machine or to install a similar system. But the hardware including processor type, I/O cards and disks could be incompatible. You can create a bootable DVD as well as a tape but success is dependent on similarities between the two systems.

HaH, probably when I wrote my last commentary I was falling sleep, because not even me can understand what I wrote.

Bottom line is, if hardware is not similar you can not do it. :-)

Re: Ignite restoration on new hardware

A possibility is the procedure we use for DR. We use make_tape_recovery to back up our system. Then we use the dual media install to recover that system to different hardware. I'm not sure what happens if the hardware is drastically different but this has always worked for us.
