Ignite server on different subnet

Is it possible to backup to an Ignite server which is on a different subnet tio the client?

Yes, you have to build an Ignite boot helper.

Don't worry about what version of the OS is involved, Ignite works the same on all platforms.

Yes you can as Stephen said, but it is not as trivial as one might think. Usually there are firewalls (network level hardware, not just IP-chains like software only) between different subnets, and a series of ports needs to be open through these firewalls. The information on the port ranges those need to be open, eludes me right now but it was not one or two ports. That's why we gave up on this. Whenever I need to use the ignite server, I have dedicated port on the server with a 100+ feet cross-over cable attached to the port already. I just drag the cable to wherever it is needed and be done with it. It is too much of a hassle otherwise.

Have to agree with the last post.

It actually is much easier to do this through a private switch. If it is physically possible, that is what should be done.

Creating the recovery image should not be a problem.

Installing it however can be an issue, depending on your setup, because default install protocols do not span subnets.

Most Itanium clients have a firmware 'dbprofile' command that makes this less of an issue. PA-RISC clients are harder.
