Ignite Server required?

Hi,

I have 4 servers. Presently, we do the make_tape_recoveries to tape. I would like to put the recoveries/images on a server. So basically, I just create one of the systems as an ignite server and then on the other three systems run "make_net_recovery" from the cron of each server? Or do I have to run the make_net_recovery from the server itself to go out and get the other servers' images?
On the ignite server, do I have to setup the other servers as clients, or is that just for clients that you want to boot from ignite?

Thanks

Re: Ignite Server required?

Shalom,

To make or recover make_tape_recovery images all that is required is a certified bootable tape drive.

To make a make_net_recovery all that is required is an NFS share with write priviledges.

To recovery with make_net_recovery an ignite server is required.

Re: Ignite Server required?

I want to be able to stop doing the make_tape_recoverys to tape and send them to disk...all on one server...and I want to be able to recover a server from these images. So I would need Ignite server setup right? Just reading the documentation for Ignite Server setup...they make it sound more like something you would require for cold installs of new servers (which I would like to do at a later time, but right now jsut recovery) and installing core depots and clients etc etc etc. I just want to write the images to one server and be able to recover the server in the event of a disaster or major system problem.

Re: Ignite Server required?

The central Ignite server can do both -- golden images or current images for disaster recovery. Make sure you have enough space on your Ignite server to store a couple of images for each server, one current and one from several weeks before. In all cases, an Ignite image *IS* a cold install and not a file restore, whether based on a tape or network image.

Re: Ignite Server required?

Coolmar,

Setup one of your servers as an ignite server. Then add your other servers as clients to this ignite server.

Once you've done this you'll be able to run make_net_recovery's to generate your ignite images which will be stored within /var/opt/ignite/recovery/archive/ on your ignite server.
