Ignite Unix backup for Superdome
This is a repost msg, thx all, alright, my situation is, currently our superdome has 2 partition, can I do Ignite Tape backup for just 1 partition? Since SD does not have DDS tape, need to make use the SMS tape drive, will it be ok? How and also how to restore?

Re: Ignite Unix backup for Superdome
Interesting question and I do not believe you can make use of tape drive of SMS station to take ignite backup of your superdome. You could have connected a tape drive each to the partitions. If you dont' have a choice, then you can use make_net_recovery. Have a system in the same network as of your superdome partitions, install ignite and configure it. It is very easy and once you invoke "/opt/perf/bin/ignite" it will take you through the configuration.
Then add the partitions as clients to your ignite server and take make_net_recovery images. Put make_net_recovery in a cronjob to take images once every month or so. Look at the following faq on IUX.

Re: Ignite Unix backup for Superdome
Yeah, u are both right, but the problem I hit is I need to send the tape image to other site to restore other SD, so make_net_recovery cannot help in this case.... any clue?

Re: Ignite Unix backup for Superdome
So, the other superdome is having tape drives?. If so, you can use make_net_recovery image to prepare make_tape_recovery tape if the ignite server is having a tape drive.
If you haven't used ignite server process, then it is going to be quite a bit of research for you. Instead you might want to purchase tape drives for your superdomes.
Look at the following itrc document on preparing a ignite tape from network image. It basically involves two steps.
1. Writing bootlif onto the tape at the beginning and
2. Append the make_net_image.

Re: Ignite Unix backup for Superdome
There are certain KB (Knowledge Base) docs on itrc.com that cannot be accessed unless you have your ITRC ID tied to a current maint contract. I suspect that's one.
Sorry,
Jeff
