Ignite-UX and HP-UX B.11.11

Hello.

I have an rp2400 running B.11.11 :

# uname -a
HP-UX badabing B.11.11 U 9000/800

I have managed to download and install Ignite-UX (with
the pax patch), so I can make a recovery tape before
installing OS patches :

# swlist | grep Ignite
Ignite-UX-11-00 B.4.1.61

This is apparently The Wrong Release, as it expects
B11.00, and fails make_tape_recovery :

#/opt/ignite/bin/make_tape_recovery


* Creating The Tape Archive
make_medialif: error - /opt/ignite/data/Rel_B.11.11/SYSCMDS does not exist, is not a regular file or is not readable
ERROR: System Error, /opt/ignite/bin/make_medialif failed creating boot LIF
file.
ERROR: Failed to generate LIF on tape .

mainly because there's no Rel_B.11.11 directory :

# ls /opt/ignite/data/
INSTCMDS RECCMDS Rel_B.11.00 examples scripts tutorial

OK. This is the latest version of Ignite-UX I was able to find on the download site. What do I need to do here to get Ignite-UX to make backups for me on my B.11.11 system?

Hi John,

I ran into the same problem last week. I wound up having to reinstall the Ignite-UX depot. The SYSCMDS were just missing for 11.11 for some reason. They had been there earlier but somehow I managed to improve things to the point that they didn't work any more. Reinstallation fixed things. The B.4.1.61 version is for both 11.0 and 11.11.

Which version did you download and install? There are multiple version of the B.4.1.61 version of Ignite/UX. The version you need to download is "HP-UX 11i B.11.22 IA/PA". This is the version I have on an 11i (11.11) system and it is working without a problem.

Take another look at that swlist |grep Ignite

Did you install just the Ignite Installation Server or the recovery product also?
# swlist |grep Ignite
IUX-Recovery B.4.1.61 Ignite-UX network recovery tool subset
Ignite-UX-11-11 B.4.1.61 HP-UX Installation Utilities for Installing 11.11 Systems

I've run into this problem a couple of times, once I was just able to copy the SYSCMDS from another machine. The second time I just did an uninstall and reinstall and it was there.

OK. Getting the right release from the download site for HP-UX 11iB11.22.IA/PA was the ticket. I downloaded
Ignite-UX-11-11_B.4.1.61_HP-UX_B.11.22_IA+PA.depot, installed it, and it had the 11.11 directory. make_tape_recovery was able to create the Archive.

Now I have to figure out what's wrong with my tape drive, but that should be easier!

I had the same problem in January.

Support instructed me to swremove Ignitem, download the big 4.1.61 archive that covers 11, 11.11 and Itanium and reinstall.

This worked, though I lost a bunch of customization in the configuration files, which I carefully restored from backup.

I think there be a bug in there somewhere.
