Ignite-UX and remote hosts
Hello,
i need to know any prerequisite for using restore funztionality of HPUX server using Ignite UX.
In particular it is possible to create the HPUX image between distant hosts and server (for distant i mean different geographical sites) but is it possible to restore an host in case of failure? The network between the server and the hosts can accomodate router?
In the administration manual i found nothing clear describin those prerequisites. Is there any information source for this query?
Thanks and regards
RV

Re: Ignite-UX and remote hosts
It is true that the networking protocols (bootp/DHCP) used by Ignite for the initial install or the install of a dead machine do not span subnets.
You cannot Ignite a dead remote machine across LAN subnets without a 'local boot helper' setup.
Other remote Ignite options do work: tape, CD/DVD, 'bootsys' command if machine is up and running on the network.
See this whitepaper: http://www.docs.hp.com/en/5991-7513/5991-7513.pdf
