ignite-ux for hp-ux 9.04

I have an old G50 with 9.04 running on it. Does anyone know if ignite-ux even existed that far back and where I might find a copy of it? :)

I know... I'm asking for the impossible.

Thanks for your help!

Re: ignite-ux for hp-ux 9.04

AFAIR ignite/UX came with HP-UX 10.xx.

So you should consider to backup with fbackup and restore a minimal system + your fbackup if needed.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: ignite-ux for hp-ux 9.04

If I use fbackup and install 9.04 from CD... I can't get the patches that are currently loaded on the G50, correct?

p.s. as far as I know, we don't have any depots or CDs with the patches on them.

Re: ignite-ux for hp-ux 9.04

If you backup your system with fbackup, you will have everything on that tape.

Because you cannot boot a fbackup tape, you need to install an OS to be able to restore the tape.

Hope this helps!

Re: ignite-ux for hp-ux 9.04

Hi Stephanie,

In previous life (in 1997) I have used COPYUTIL utility to backup OS disk and restore it on the same server running HP-UX 9.04.

COPYUTIL is an offline utility, which must be run at ODE prompt. I think it just dd the disk to tape and have a facility to restore back to tape.

I have used it in 1997 successfully while trying to upgrade the server from HP-UX 9.04 to 10.01

It was so much back in timeframe my memory is very hazy.

Hope this would help you.

Re: ignite-ux for hp-ux 9.04

There was never any Ignite for 9.anything so fbackup is the way to go. Make extra copies of your 9.04 install CD's and/or tapes -- they cannot be replaced. If you hurry, you can still download all the 9.xx patches. All 9.xx and 10.xx patches have been removed from the primary patch website but are still available from:

Re: ignite-ux for hp-ux 9.04

COPYUTIL is what we always used way back in those dark ages.
If I remember correctly ( this was like 12 years ago ) the system had to be down to do it.
