Ignite UX query

I have a general query about ignite which I hope people can help with. Is there any issue with running a make_net_recovery for a server while the server has a normal load and users logged on. I remember when I first used ignite that it was reccomended that images were taken during quiet periods as files are moved out the way. After taking a look at the latest administration guide I can't find anything that suggests this is neccesary. Does anybody have any idea?

Re: Ignite UX query

Adam,

There shouldn't be any problem with running your make_net_recovery during normal operation. The only issues I can think of are the increased network traffic and I/O traffic. If the system is heavily loaded in either of theses areas, your users may not be happy with response time while your recovery is running, but that's about it.

Re: Ignite UX query

Hi,

make_net_recovery makes a backup of rather steady filesystems, so you shouldn't bother to hard about users logged on or not.

We primarily schedule Ignite backups in the quiet hours in the weekend because of performance reasons.

Thierry.

Hello,

You might be interested by those FAQs :

Ignite is using TFTP. As soon as your network bandwith allow you to do so (big TFTP transfers), there should be absolutely no problem.

One thing to mention here, if you replace the client system, the LAN address might change ('known problem with /var/opt/ignite/clients') :

Hope this helps, Bye.

Re: Ignite UX query

I have my servers running make_net_recovery to a central Ignite Server a couple of times a week. One of the runs is prime time.

The user community does not notice.

I see the I/O jump, but nothing to worry about.

The key factor is making sure too many of those things don't pile up, had to write a script to get rid of anything older than 15 days old.
