Ignoring Quorum at the time of vgactivation

Hi all,

I have a VG with 2 PV(10GB size) and 2 LV(10GB Size). Now if one PV is not present. Can i able to activate the vg by ignoring the quorum?

I mean i know my lvol1 is linking with PV1 only. So in that case if i activate the VG i can access my lvol1.

Can any one clear my doubt please?

Thanx & Rgds,
Guna

Re: Ignoring Quorum at the time of vgactivation

Hi melvyn burnard

You r absolutely right. I also checked in the vgchange man page.

But my doubt is, After activating the VG if i try to access the lvol2 which links the PV2(which is not present) what will happen?

And i saw in one thread
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1060768

In that thread one peson posted a message,

It seems you lost the disk and it is not mirror disk. You can activate volume group with no quorum only if you have one disk good in the mirror group. If your volume groups spanned onto two physical disks (not mirror) then it is not possible to activate it. You need to replace the bad disk and restore the data.

As per him we cant activate a VG if the lv dont have mirror setup.

Can u please clear my doubt?

correct. If your Lvol spans multiple PV's, then you need all the PV's to use the Lvol
