increase /stand file system

To install a patch on HPUX 11.0 I need to increase the file system /stand but whenever I try to umount it, it is in use.

How can I umount /stand, since it is used by the OS?

Re: increase /stand file system

You can't increase /stand without rebuilding the system from an Ignite/UX tape. Get Ignite at http://software.hp.com/products/IUX

Re: increase /stand file system

Another thought I just had: If you need more space in /stand look and see if you have more than one copy of vmunix. Look for a vmunix.prev and if you are VERY SURE that your current kernel is stable, you can remove vmunix.prev or any other backup copies that may be there.

Re: increase /stand file system

Another thing I have seen is huge core files, text files, tar backups, and much more under /stand because people are not sure what it is, and what the directory should be used for.

As a rule of thumb, if you dont know what it is, DONT delete it! At least not in that directory!

Also, as mentioned before, you should always keep 2 copies only of the kernel. vmunix, and vmunix.prev. I would never delete the last, as if there is ever corruption to the kernel, you have no backup and will Have to reload the OS at that point!

Hi Francisco,

Maybe you don?t need increase a FS.
You can try this :

remove vmunix.prev because patch installation proccess loads a new vmunix and put you current vmunix to vmunix.prev.
Look in /stand/build if there is a obsolete test kernel (vmunix.test) and remove it too.
Later try install the patch !

I hope this help
