1) swap = 2 x physical memory minimum
2) mirror everything on root disks across controllers
3) mirror swap across controllers
4) spread your I/O across as many SCSI or FC controllers as possible.
5) investigate PRSET to guarantee processing resources for apps if your server has a CPU bottleneck

You can also distribute the disks on diff controllers and incase of mirrors it would help you interms of redundancy also.
