increasing /usr file system

I booted my machine in single user mode so I could increase my /usr volume. I can not get it to umount it keeps telling me it is busy. I try running fuser and there is nothing showing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: increasing /usr file system

What is your PWD?

Try cd /, and then umount /usr.

Re: increasing /usr file system

Hi Larry:

If you are truly in single user mode (via a boot) then '/usr' shouldn't be mounted. If you see the filesystem with:

# cat /etc/mnttab

...then you '/usr' is mounted. Also:

# who -r

...will show you your runlevel.

Re: increasing /usr file system

If you truly booted your system in single user (as opposed to an init -s command), then /usr should not be mounted unless you explicitly mounted it.

The proper way to do this is reboot and interrupt the boot process.

BOOT PRI
Interact with isl? Y
hpux -is

At this point, you will be up in single-user as root with only / mounted. All the commands that you need will be in /sbin.

BTW, No HP-UX should be without OnlineJFS; it's just too handy-dandy.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: increasing /usr file system

To clear open processes on the /usr filesystem.

fuser -cuk /usr

I would NOT do that on a production system during normal business hours.
