inetd processes daemon

Hi !!!
I have a HPUX 11.00 N4000.

I found in the proceses so many inetd daemons running, like this

That's definitely too many inetd processes.

I would be sorely tempted to try running '/sbin/init.d/inetd stop' and see how many of those processes disappear. This is definitely not normal.

Step 1:

inetd -k
as the root user.

See whats going on there.

If there still is a problem, check and see if /etc/inittab has inetd spawning or anything funny.

Also check /etc/inetd.conf against a working machine and make sure its similar.

Last case, boot the box and see if it still happens.

Post any errors you feel may be meaningful from /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log

You should be able to cross reference the times in syslog.log.

Check your /etc/rc.config.d/netdaemons file. It contains the setting for the INETD_ARGS variable

See what open files are associated to these.

lsof -p pid

Check /etc/rc.log for errors.

Compare /etc/inittab with /usr/newconfig/etc/inittab
