info vendor machine

What is the command hp-ux for display the machine's vendor? With 'uname -a' we have only the model of platform, but we want the vendor of machine/platform on hp-ux.

Thanks.

Re: info vendor machine

Well if it is running HP-UX, I woul dsuggest the vendor name is HP
My house is the bank's, my money the wife's, But my opinions belong to me, not HP!

Re: info vendor machine

Melvyn makes a very good point: only HP machines will run HP-UX.

Re: info vendor machine

I remember another company putting HP-UX on it's machines, but not exactly the name at this moment.
But you should get a response from "model" command too.

Hope this helps!

Re: info vendor machine

Well, I'm not sure if their systems ran HP-UX *before* HP acquired them but the origanl vendor of the behemoth old V-class systems - Cogent or something like that - may have run HP-UX which may have output a vendor string that wouldn't have been HP. But I never worked on a V-class that wasn't HP manufactured.
Maybe one of the HP old-timers would know for sure.

My 2 cents,
Jeff

Re: info vendor machine

The company mentioned by Jeff was Convex, long time ago.

But some weeks ago there was a post here in the HP-UX forum about a SCSI problem and the poster provided an ioscan I've never seen before. He wrote it is coming from a system from another vendor and it is running HP-UX 11i v1. But I really can't remember the name :-(
But this is the only non-HP system with HP-UX I know, seems to be very rare.

Hope this helps!
